One of the 250 North American stores that Starbucks announced it would close was in Ballard.
The cafe, located at 999 NW Leary Way, officially closed its doors after opening eight months prior.
Two other Starbucks locations in Seattle were affected by the nationwide closures: 1700 7th Ave in downtown Seattle and 9150 Rainier Ave S. in Rainier Beach. The company announced the closures earlier this week.
According to a letter sent to employees, Mike Grams, Starbucks’ chief operating officer, said the targeted locations were not producing acceptable financial results or could not provide the type of experience Starbucks wanted for its customers and employees.
“These advancements have given us a clearer view of each coffee shop’s performance,” Grams said in his letter. “While most are benefiting from this overall momentum, some cafes continue to underperform despite the hard work and commitment of all of you. »
Leary’s location is the second Starbucks to close in Ballard in the past year.
Starbucks said it would transfer employees to other stores if possible or provide severance if it could not place an employee in another location.
