  • Republicans fear the loss of Kansas could be a domino and cost them the majority in the Senate.

Driving the news: Republican Party operatives are increasingly frustrated with Marshall’s re-election campaign, which they say has not been aggressive enough at a time when soaring fuel prices have particularly hit farmers in Kansas and elsewhere in the Midwest.

  • Grant, who helped lead the main pro-Trump super PAC in 2024 and has remained involved in Trump’s political operations, will be Marshall’s senior adviser and help guide strategy over the final three weeks.
  • Grant also worked on Marshall’s 2020 Senate campaign.

What they say: “Chris is an absolute pro who is a long-time friend of the Marshall team. Having him help land the plane for the last three weeks is a no-brainer,” Brent Robertson, Marshall’s chief of staff, told Axios.

Zoom: Two outside GOP groups — the Senate Leadership Fund and the Club for Growth — are investing millions in the Kansas race.

  • SLF, the main super PAC aligned with GOP leadership in the Senate, is spending $14 million in Kansas after shifting resources from the Senate race to North Carolina, where Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper has a significant lead in polls over former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Whatley.
  • Trump said in a social media post Monday that he would campaign for Marshall “very soon.”
  • A Democratic-aligned super PAC announced plans to spend $5 million to help Hamilton.

Between the lines: Marshall has been in the news recently, including a New York Times article that said his medical practice had sued more than 700 former patients for unpaid medical bills, and that 81 of them were subsequently arrested for failing to appear in court.

The other side: Hamilton, a Methodist minister, won the support of two former Republican governors of Kansas, Mike Hayden and Bill Graves.
