Tracker Season 4 Premiere: The Mystery of Colter’s Ongoing Case Explained
We first catch up with Colter in his Airstream. He gets up, prepares breakfast and sits at his table, where he hesitates before opening a small brown book containing summaries of his affairs. Unlike other pages we see, which are marked “finished” in the right corner, a dog-eared page is not. And it appears to be the second or third page of this particular entry, given that this passage begins with an ellipsis. The page says:
…and is in progress.
I tried to speak to the couple – no answer, no one there – 2 attempts. Follow-up call with M three days later. This time M was more willing to talk. He told me he was home that evening and they talked about their plans for the next day. She left. He said he saw him in a car.
Who did this car belong to?
Season 4, Episode 1 never picks up this thread again – even after Colter solves the case of the week. As of now, we have no idea who the couple was, whether “M” is someone’s initial or just shorthand for “man,” or who “she” might be. Or, for that matter, who owns the aforementioned car.
But maybe we shouldn’t expect answers anytime soon. When TVLine spoke to Reid ahead of Season 4, he revealed that the writers were toying with the idea of a larger mystery that could play out throughout the season.
“Could he pursue a much longer, season-long villain or ghost?” » Reid said. “Is he encountering something in one of the cases that reveals a darker secret or, like, some sort of bogeyman that exists? That’s another thing we’re playing with.”
And that wasn’t all Reid had to say about the possibility of Colter carrying the weight of a case beyond a single episode. In the same response, the showrunner said he wanted this season’s cases to leave Colter with more “emotional scars” and explored what happens when the rewarder doesn’t save the day. And it seems that this “ongoing” case is a potential example.
“What we’re trying to do is give him a few more scars,” Reid said. “Doesn’t he always win? Does he fail? What does that look like? Does he make a mistake and it costs someone their life? So those are definitely places we’re going this year… It’s not always going to be a happy ending.”
How do you think Colter’s “ongoing” case will play out in Season 4? And did “Tracker” feel different now that production has moved to Los Angeles? Score the season opener via the following poll, then leave your full theories and reviews in a comment below.
