Treasury yields fell on Wednesday as investors sought shelter from a selloff in stock futures triggered by possible major Democratic victories in the U.S. midterm elections.

The reference Yield on 10-year Treasury bonds was last seen down 3 basis points at 4.9167%. THE Bond yield at 30 years slipped 3 basis points to 5.29%, and the short-term rate Yield of 2-year notes was generally stable at 4.6101%.

One basis point is 0.01%, or 1/100th of 1%, and yields and prices move inversely to each other.

Democrats are on track for a clear victory, with the party winning at least the House and expected to win the Senate according to a CNBC election bureau.

The Associated Press projects that Democrats flipped Republican Senate seats in Iowa, Kansas, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Maine and Texas.

Stock futures fell sharply as election results came in. Contracts linked to the S&P 500 were down 0.17% and Nasdaq-100 futures slipped 0.25%.

AI stocks, which led the bull market, accelerated the decline overnight on concerns that Democrats would slow data center construction.
