Trump attacks NBC News reporter for supporting Ramaswamy ad
President Donald Trump has again lashed out at a reporter, this time an NBC News correspondent, who pressed him on his support for a Vivek Ramaswamy ad that was condemned by Democrats and Republicans.
Ramaswamy, the Republican candidate for governor of Ohio, is behind a new spot that debuted this week featuring his Democratic rival’s ex-mother, Amy Acton. In the ad, Acton’s mother says she doesn’t trust her daughter, saying she “lies about her past.”
Allegations that Acton’s now deceased stepfather sexually abused her when she was a child are not mentioned in the spot. According to the AP, the stepfather was accused of raping her but did not show up for the court hearing and was considered a fugitive. Acton’s brother said that at the time, he and his sister were removed from their mother’s custody because her mother was staying with their stepfather.
Referring to the Ramaswany ad, Trump said: “A mother says, ‘Don’t put my daughter on there because she’s a horrible person and a liar. Why shouldn’t someone use that?’
NBC News’ Monica Alba then asked him, “But the sexual abuse allegations mean nothing to you?” Trump continued, but Alba continued to ask the question.
“Who are you with?” he asked her.
“I’m with NBC sir,” she replied.
“One of the worst networks you have,” he said.
She continued to ask about the sexual abuse allegations and Trump told her, “Quiet.”
“Isn’t she a new person? You’re a horrible little reporter, aren’t you?” » Trump said.
Trump said: “If my mother said bad things about me, do you think the Democrats would publish it? I do. But my mother thought I was wonderful.” He looked up and said, “Thank you, Mom. »
He said of Acton’s mother: “She said her daughter was a disaster. Her daughter is a liar. And she felt she had an obligation…I should be so lucky to have publicity like that.”
He then asked Alba, “Why wouldn’t you listen to a mother who says that? Why? Miss NBC, why wouldn’t you listen.”
Alba replied: “She stayed with her father-in-law. »
“I don’t know anything about his father-in-law,” Trump said.
Republicans, including the state’s current governor, Mike DeWine, have said Ramaswamy should withdraw his candidacy. “It’s false. It needs to be taken down,” DeWine said of the ad Thursday. Nikki Haley, who faced Ramaswamy in the 2024 GOP presidential debates, posted on
Trump’s outburst toward a reporter is just the latest this week. He reprimanded The Independent correspondent Andrew Feinberg, and later the White House removed him from his travel pool duties. Trump also lashed out at CNN’s Kaitlan Collins and an ABC News reporter as they asked him questions.
