An explosive report that President Donald Trump was soliciting opinions on whether to fire his longest-serving chief of staff caused widespread “panic” after Trump’s “human printer” showed him hard copies of the information.

PolicyThe “Playbook” newsletter revealed that the eruption of anger took place at the White House on Thursday following their initial report that Trump had tapped a list of informal outside advisers to end Wiles’ tenure and propose several names for a successor to the veteran Florida political operative, who is the first woman to serve as chief of staff.

Trump’s anger had been stoked by Natalie Harp, his longtime aide and near-constant companion who often brings him hard copies of news and helps him with his Truth Social posts. A source said he “blew up” after seeing the news report and began making even more phone calls about potential replacements for Wiles.

He reportedly discussed elevating deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller or appointing New York Yankees executive Randy Levine to run things as his top aide.

He’s also considering bringing in his longtime friend turned traveling peace negotiator, Steve Witkoff, as well as federal housing boss Bill Pulte, and in recent days other names have entered the conversation: EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin and Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton.

At the same time, a source said Wiles and those in his camp had been “burning phones all over town” in an effort to shore up the president’s support by getting his friends to say good things about him.

Another person close to Trump said the West Wing was “in a state of panic” over the possibility that Wiles was at odds with the man in the Oval Office.

“Susie is looking over her shoulder, trying to get people to come out and say good things about her and her team and make it seem like everything is okay. It’s not,” they said.

Trump denied losing confidence in Wiles and White House spokeswoman Danielle Alvarez scoffed Policy as “fake news” in a statement to the media.

But the alleged panic inside the White House suggests that Trump is returning to the patterns of behavior that dominated his first term, when his administration was plagued by constant infighting as warring camps of aides vied for office.

The president has taken steps to weaken Wiles in recent days, including hiring now-embattled press secretary Katie Zacharia without consulting his top aide.
