Trump grants visa to mother of Ghanaian boy killed in New York
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Saturday that U.S. President Donald Trump has agreed to grant a visa to the mother of a 15-year-old boy killed in a Bronx neighborhood earlier this week.
Javits Frimpong left Ghana for New York last year to join his father and start a new life in the United States, according to Rep. Ritchie Torres, a Democrat from the Bronx.
Frimpong was shot in the abdomen Thursday morning while walking to school and later died at a hospital, according to the New York Police Department.
There have been no arrests in the case so far as police investigate the shooting.
Mamdani says he spoke to Trump
“I just called President Trump and he agreed to grant him a visa immediately,” Mamdani posted on X.
“The murder of a child is a pain no parent should have to endure, let alone thousands of miles away,” he wrote. “Javits Frimpong’s mother deserves to say goodbye to her son in person.”
The killing sparked an outpouring of grief in New York, with Torres writing: “Our entire borough mourns a young man who should have had his whole future ahead of him. »
The White House has not yet commented on the Trump-Mamdani phone call.
Teenager was bullied at school, father says
Thomas Frimpong remembers his son as a quiet boy and said he was bullied at school by two boys.
Ghanaian Foreign Minister Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa thanked Mamdani and Trump in a message on X.
He said Ghanaian authorities were coordinating with Javits Frimpong’s mother to help her with the visa application process.
