Trump lawyer Ty Cobb makes damning prediction about $10 billion lawsuit against BBC
How much does the president really want the pot of gold?
Donald Trump won’t play along in his $10 billion lawsuit, a former lawyer for the president says.
First-term White House counsel Ty Cobb appeared on CNN At the front Thursday and said it was impossible for the 80-year-old to attend the entire deposition requested by the BBC.
British media titan defends himself against Trump’s lawsuit over episode of his show Panorama. On Thursday, the judge sided with the company and ordered it to sit and be removed by its lawyers.
Cobb says there’s no way Trump could do that.
“So Trump wants $10 billion. Now he’s being ordered to answer questions under oath,” said host Erin Burnett. “To what extent did this backfire? »
“Oh, it backfired on me,” Cobb said. “Trump, as we know, sued several media outlets over stories he didn’t like, even if the reporting was true. Many of those outlets – national outlets – overpaid Trump to try to curry favor with him.”

US media giants ABC and CBS have both settled their dispute with the president after being sued by him.
ABC agreed to pay Trump $16 million to settle a case after anchor George Stephanopoulos said the president had been “found liable for rape” in E’s civil case. Jean Carroll when the jury found him responsible for sexual assault. CBS parent company Paramount also agreed to pay $16 million to settle Donald Trump’s lawsuit after he complained that a 60 minutes Kamala Harris’ interview was misleadingly edited. The money was intended for Trump’s future presidential library.
“The BBC’s lawyers are doing the right thing,” Cobb continued. “They are defending themselves and they are not going away. Trump has dragged on. He is the plaintiff in this case. He is the one who made up these claims.”
The BBC bucked the trend and fought back.
He sued the BBC over its coverage of the 2024 election after editing clips that his team said made it appear he encouraged violence at the Capitol on January 6. There are only two months of discovery left in the case, and the network’s lawyers say they “still have not been able to remove the plaintiff.”
Trump skipped a seven-hour deposition scheduled for October 16, citing a “matter of national importance.” However, he had time that day to attend a rally in Dalton, Georgia.
He must now appear for a deposition on Dec. 11, or face sanctions and the possibility of the case being dismissed.
“He takes issue with the way they edited parts of his exhortation to the January 6 insurrection. And he didn’t like the way they pieced it together. So he complained about it, hoping they would give in and pay him, but they didn’t. And they’re trying to get his deposition, which they’re entitled to, or the case will be closed,” Cobb added.
The case also includes a subpoena by the BBC regarding membership records at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort. U.S. District Judge Enjoliqué Lett supported it, and Cobb says it all has to do with the impact on Trump’s reputation.
Trump’s obsession with non-existent voter fraud culminated in the deadly January 6 riots.
“So it’s not really clear what this is going to reveal, other than it’s going to go to some extent to how damaged has Trump really been?” he said. And that’s a very narrow subset of what will be explored in the repository.
“You know, they can touch on anything related to Trump’s reputation, the reputation of his multiple bankruptcies, his business acumen. They will be able to touch on all the personal issues, from the 34 crimes to the Epstein files to the sale of pardons at this point in the game.”
“So this is a high-profile case, which is why Trump will never give in. He’ll probably refuse to go. If he goes, he’ll get out in the middle, and the case will ultimately be dismissed unless the plaintiffs are entitled and given his full testimony.”
Cobb left Trump’s White House legal team in May 2018 with reports that he disagreed with how aggressively Trump should fight Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation.
