Trump promises ‘nearly $100’ to 20 million seniors in latest cash handout

President Donald Trump announced Friday (October 2) that he would send “nearly $100” to 20 million seniors across the country in his latest effort to promise money to Americans.
To be exact, it’s $90 for each of the seniors.
“My administration will immediately begin sending ‘checks’ of nearly $100 to more than 20 MILLION wonderful seniors to help pay their Medicare Part B premiums,” the president said in the late-night announcement on his social media site Truth Social. “This money will come from the Medicare Improvement Fund, a wasteful ‘slush fund’ that has only been used by Congressional Democrats to pay for waste, fraud and abuse.”
It is unclear whether the White House has the authority to embezzle the money as Trump claims. USA TODAY reached out to the administration for information.
The promised checks are the latest move by the president to deliver cash to Americans before the upcoming midterm elections. Trump is not on the ballot, but Republicans are expected to face a tough fight from Democrats amid angst over the negative impact of Trump’s war on Iran on household finances.
Trump, in his announcement Friday, reiterated another of his midterm election-related financial promises: $5,000 to every American adult “if and when the Republicans win.”
Critics say the $5,000 amounts to nothing more than a bribe.
According to a USA TODAY review of Trump’s promises about getting money to Americans, the president has a mixed record.
About 1.45 million U.S. service members received his $1,776 “warrior dividend” checks. However, Americans did not receive so-called $2,000 tariff dividend checks or checks resulting from the Government Department’s efficiency savings. DOGE savings checks were valued at $5,000.
The announcement of the $100 check comes days after White House officials said they would begin sending $500 checks to nearly $1 million Americans, who his administration says have been overcharged through the federal Affordable Care Act exchange for purchasing health insurance.
