(Bloomberg) — President Donald Trump said it is “time to decide” whether he will strike a deal with Tehran or resume attacks as Iranian and Houthi threats to Americans in the Middle East continue to grow.

“I have a decision to make: Do I finish it, which would be very easy to do, or do I make a deal? That’s it,” Trump said in an interview with Sunday Morning Futures on Fox News. “We don’t play games.”

Trump has suggested that U.S. strikes against Iran could resume after the Nov. 3 midterm elections and he has sent additional forces, including a third aircraft carrier group, to the Persian Gulf.

Officials warn that the period between the elections and the new Congress taking office could be particularly dangerous, with a negotiated agreement seen as the most likely way to end the conflict.

The United States is reducing diplomatic and military troop levels in parts of the Middle East amid growing threats from Iran and Iranian-backed Houthi militants in Yemen.

The State Department had initially acknowledged the departures only from Saudi Arabia, but a U.S. official told Bloomberg News on Friday that personnel changes were taking place more broadly as Iran steps up attacks on ships near the Strait of Hormuz.
