President Donald Trump signed an executive order Tuesday renaming artificial intelligence “superintelligence” in a bid to rebrand the technology amid calls to curb its development. Asset has repeatedly called whistleblowers’ warnings about insufficient oversight of AI companies exaggerated and a “hoax.”
THE decree said the term “superintelligence” better captures the capabilities of the rapidly developing technology, which does “much more than imitate or automate discrete aspects of human intelligence.”
“As these capabilities continue to improve, they increasingly represent not just artificial intelligence, but a new era of superintelligence,” the order states. “The terminology used by the federal government should reflect the transformative capabilities of these technologies and the limitless opportunities they create for the American people.”
