As gas prices rise amid the conflict with Iran, some of President Donald Trump’s most loyal supporters say they are willing to pay more at the pump if it means preventing Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons — even with the midterm elections two weeks away.
“If you’re a truly good American, you won’t think about yourself or how much you spend on gas. But what life will be like for your children, your grandchildren and great-grandchildren,” one voter told Fox News Digital Tuesday night.
“What will happen to them? You have to keep these people in Iran’s political regime without nuclear weapons. If we don’t do something now, isn’t it worth paying an extra dollar a gallon?”
Fox News Digital spoke with several voters after Trump’s rally Tuesday at Pitt-Greenville Airport about rising gas prices, the upcoming midterm elections and the ongoing war with Iran, which has driven up oil prices and heightened Americans’ affordability concerns.

“Things haven’t changed much since Sleepy Joe,” Shauna, another local voter, told Fox News Digital of former President Joe Biden. “At least the prices. … But (Trump) is doing the best he can with what he has. Because, you know, he’s not in Congress. He can’t pass a lot of things.”
Another rally attendee told Fox News Digital that preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon was worth the cost of higher gas prices for American drivers.

“We believed in what he (Trump) was saying and what he stood for,” local voter Michael told Fox News Digital. “And you hear people today saying, ‘You all wanted to get the politicians out of Washington.’ …We hosted a businessman. (He) never claimed to be a politician. He’s a businessman.
“Even with gas prices going up for what he did in Iran,” he added. “To me, it’s worth the high gas prices. I’ll take any day to stop a country like Iran and take away nuclear power. That’s a no-brainer, you know. Now, will gas prices go down? Absolutely. They will go down because of what he’s done.”

Another Trump supporter, Steve, told Fox News Digital that he would encourage other Americans to vote for Republican candidates despite the high prices.
“It would take an act of God to bring prices down before this election is over,” he said. “But I strongly insist that everyone vote Republican like it’s the most important election of your life. Because in many cases, it is.”

Trump argued that the ongoing war with Iran was a “small price to pay” to ensure the nation’s security.
The president has crisscrossed the country in the final weeks leading up to the Nov. 3 midterm elections, rallying his supporters in an effort to promote Republican candidates and help the Republican Party maintain control of Congress. His stop in North Carolina was partly to support Republican Senate candidate Michael Whatley, who is facing former Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper.
