Trump’s First Post-Election Executive Action: Preserving Oval Office Changes
President Donald Trump signed a proclamation Thursday that he said will designate the Oval Office and Cabinet Room of the White House as a “national monument” and “federal monument.”
These designations, he said, would prevent future presidents from demolishing or canceling the redesign of these spaces.
“It cannot be dismantled, destroyed, touched or anything else. It will be a… it’s actually called a national monument. It’s a federal monument,” he told reporters in the Oval Office. “This will make it impossible for anyone to destroy this incredible space.”
Trump’s His attempt to preserve the changes he made to the White House marks the first executive actions he has taken since Tuesday’s midterm elections — and the third event this week focused his attempts to physically remake the White House and the nation’s capital.
