The latest round of polls from the New York Times and the University of Siena found that only 38% of likely voters surveyed in seven key Senate-bound states approved of Trump’s performance as president.
Speaking on Erin Burnett at the front On Monday, CNN senior White House correspondent Kristen Holmes revealed what sources told her Trump was saying privately about tomorrow’s election.

“He saw the polling, which obviously doesn’t look good for the Republicans,” Holmes told Burnett. “He saw the field of candidates. He saw the landscape.”

She added: “Privately, to some allies and advisors, he predicted the worst-case scenario, which was that Democrats won both houses of Congress, and as part of that, he talked about what exactly that would look like in terms of government, investigations, or possible impeachment hearings.” »
Holmes claimed that in his speech at the Reflecting Pool, “you almost heard Trump admit it.”
During his speech on Monday, Trump said: “For whatever reason, the sitting president doesn’t win the midterm elections. But we gave it a very strong blow.”
Holmes noted that Trump’s comment “almost feels like a concession before we actually see the results.”
She added that although Trump “privately predicted” a potential loss, White House sources told the reporter that how the high-ranking president would react to Democrats winning both houses of Congress was “anyone’s guess.”
“That will be how Donald Trump feels in that moment, even though he was prepared, even though he predicted this,” Holmes said.
Holmes also revealed that the White House added a viewing party at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the East Room of the White House, which is currently closed to the press, according to the White House press schedule.
“We’ll see if they end up opening up to the press, I think a lot of it will depend on how the Republicans actually behave.”
The Daily Beast has contacted the White House for comment.
Holmes’ inside report from the White House followed MS NOW reporter and former CNN star Paula Reid, who shared what she was told by sources within the Trump administration.
“Overall, there’s a sense that we’re absolutely going to take losses,” Reid said, saying some advisers have told him, “Maybe we deserve this based on the policies that we have that we haven’t put forward.”
Reid added that the people she spoke with “are focused on themselves and their next moves” ahead of the election outcome, and said she expected “high-profile departures” from the administration.
“What I’m being told to look for over the next few days is people who really want to show, not only to the president, but also to Stephen Miller, that they are loyal, not only to this administration, but to its priorities,” Reid said.
She added that sources told her that Miller, Trump’s deputy chief of staff for policy, “will have a significant role in determining how the next two years go, and in particular who gets these promotions.”
