US resumes intelligence sharing with Ukraine, says Zelensky
The United States has resumed sharing military and security intelligence with Ukraine after suspending data exchanges for “a period of time”, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Sunday October 18.
Speaking during an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” reported by Bloomberg, the president confirmed that intelligence lines had been restored following operational frictions with Washington.

Zelensky also expressed hope that bilateral negotiations with US officials could take place in the coming week.
Energy ban warnings and early warning gaps
The temporary suspension of intelligence flows materialized against a backdrop of deep disagreements between Washington and kyiv over battlefield targeting rules and future ceasefire mechanisms.
On October 15, the Washington Post reported that U.S. intelligence officials had warned Ukraine that Washington would immediately stop intelligence sharing if Ukrainian forces continued long-range strikes against Russian oil refineries and petrochemical facilities.
The warning was officially conveyed to Ukraine’s embassy in Washington amid disputes over an “energy ceasefire” unilaterally declared by US President Donald Trump.
The Trump administration previously warned that it could suspend intelligence cooperation and block European purchases of U.S. weapons for Ukraine if kyiv refuses to end deep interdiction strikes against Russian energy infrastructure.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio launched a trade mission to Uzbekistan and India to expand trade ties and counter Russian and Chinese influence.
While American sources cited by the Washington Post claim that intelligence sharing was never completely dismantled, they acknowledge that specific data flows were restricted.
Before the restoration, Zelensky revealed that the Ukrainian Defense Forces received no warning from their Western partners about Russian ballistic missile launches towards kyiv for two consecutive nights, during which kinetic impacts damaged critical energy facilities and destroyed municipal electricity and water networks.
Bilateral coordination
Zelensky’s confirmation of the resumption of intelligence sharing comes as Ukrainian and U.S. officials work to hold direct bilateral consultations.
On Friday, October 16, National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov held consultations with US Special Envoy Jared Kushner to discuss the schedule and format of upcoming in-person meetings.
Zelensky said kyiv remains ready for direct discussions with White House officials to explore verifiable mechanisms for a reciprocal energy armistice to protect civilian utilities before winter.
The restoration of intelligence sharing also coincides with public scrutiny of related technological restrictions affecting Ukraine’s defense capabilities, including artificial speed limitations imposed on Starlink commercial terminals and Ukraine’s lack of access to the Pentagon-contracted Starshield satellite network.
