Vance’s red shift hits Florida as polls tighten in Sunshine State
LAKELAND, Fla. — Vice President J.D. Vance rallied the MAGA base in central Florida on Thursday, urging them to join with Republicans as polls suggest the state’s races for governor, Senate and redrawn House districts could be closer than expected.
“It seems very obvious that Florida is MAGA country,” said Vancewho received loud applause from the pro-Republican crowd when he took the stage under a banner that read “Defend Our Future.”
The GOP is still in a stronger position than Democrats in Florida. Republicans have a 1.5 million voter advantage over Democrats, in addition to much higher fundraising. In addition to this, the president Donald Trump took up residence in Florida and won the state three times by increasing margins.
Yet Democrats outperformed in recent special elections in Florida and made gains with independent and even Republican voters. Florida faces many problems same political headwinds like the rest of the United States, including inflation and ongoing frustrations over gas prices due to the war in Iran — as well as backlash over mass deportations of members of its large immigrant population.
