Vanessa Trump says she is ‘cancer free’ after breast cancer treatment
Vanessa Trump, ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr., revealed Friday that she is no longer cancer-free, after beginning treatment for breast cancer earlier this year.
“I finally don’t have cancer anymore,” Trump, 48, said in a video posted by his daughter, Kai Trump, who leaned over to hug her mother after announcing the news.
Kai Trump wrote in the video’s caption that they wanted to share his story in part to help raise awareness.
“October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness for early detection, education and support for those affected by breast cancer,” she wrote.
Vanessa Trump was married to the president’s eldest son from 2005 to 2018. They share five children, with 19-year-old Kai Trump being the eldest.
Kai Trump said she and her mother met with Dr. Nicole Saphier, a radiologist who has contributed to Fox News Medicine, to discuss breast cancer prevention and early detection.
“When it comes to breast cancer, there’s no one solution. It’s different for everyone,” Saphier, President Donald Trump’s third nominee for surgeon general, said in the video.
Vanessa Trump first said on May 20 that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, although she said in Friday’s video that she was diagnosed in April.
In her May message, Trump said she was working on a treatment plan with her medical team and had undergone a procedure earlier in the week. In an update the following month, Trump said she had been recovering from surgery for the past four weeks and was expected to begin the second stage of treatment soon.
Breast cancer rates among women under 50 have increased faster than those among older women in recent years, leading to a drop in the recommended age for screening from 50 to 40. About 16% of women diagnosed with breast cancer are under age 50, according to the American Cancer Society.
