Veteran actor Nana Patekar died at the age of 75 following a serious cardiac arrest. The National Award-winning actor was one of the most respected and distinctive performers in Hindi and Marathi cinema.
Nana Patekar was found unconscious at her Goa home
The actor was found unconscious at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa. He was then rushed to hospital, but doctors pronounced him dead. According to ANI, Dr Shekhar Salkar, head of the oncology department at Manipal Hospital, said that despite 45 minutes of continuous CPR, the actor could not be revived. Besides, a medico-legal case (MLC) has been registered and a post-mortem will be carried out.The news shocked the industry, with members of the film fraternity and fans trying to process the loss. After the news of Nana Patekar’s death broke, Marathi actor Siddharth Jadhav expressed his grief. Speaking to ETimes, he said he was “in shock after hearing about the death; it was not the time to leave. He still had a lot of things to do. Deeply in shock, he could not comprehend the news.” Meanwhile, actress Sonali Kulkarni, with a heavy heart, said she “lost a dear friend”.‘Nana Patekar has built a decades-long career across film, theater and television. Born as Vishwanath Patekar in 1951 in Maharashtra, Nana Patekar’s journey in the world of theater began in the late 1970s. ‘Gaman’ was her first film; Following this, he gave one performance after another to establish himself in the industry.Some of his most loved film plays include ‘Parinda’, ‘Prahaar’, ‘Angaar’, ‘Krantiveer’, ‘Agni Sakshi’, ‘Yashwant’, ‘Ab Tak Chhappan’, ‘Apaharan’, ‘Welcome’ and ‘Natsamrat’ among others. His performances often went beyond conventional hero and villain roles.The late legendary star received the National Award three times. In 1989, he received the National Award for Best Supporting Actor for ‘Parinda’ and got the Best Actor title for ‘Krantiveer’ in 1994. Then, in 1996, he again received the National Award for Best Supporting Actor in ‘Agni Sakshi’. Additionally, he was awarded the Padma Shri for his contribution to the arts in 2013.
