Vincent Kompany was hospitalized after the Bayern Munich coach felt unwell during training on Friday.
The Belgian, who had been suffering from a virus in recent days, was training his team before feeling ill and being hospitalized.
The Bundesliga leaders, who drew 2-2 at home to Arsenal in the Champions League on Wednesday, are due to travel to Freiburg on Sunday. Kompany was on the bench for the match against Arsenal despite the viral infection.
Bayern said on their website: “Vincent Kompany required medical treatment after collapsing during a training session for Bayern’s reserve team. The head coach of the professional team had observed the second team’s session.
“Kompany is currently undergoing a thorough examination in hospital and will remain under medical care. For the time being, his coaching staff will manage all training and match operations.”
Max Eberl, Bayern board member for sport, said: “Vincent Kompany’s health is our top priority. At Bayern we will do everything we can to ensure he recovers quickly.
“Vinnie is receiving all the necessary medical care and support, and he will be given all the time he needs. Everyone at FC Bayern wishes Vinnie a speedy recovery.”
