Violent email brawl between two top Trump appointees comes to light
Two personalities appointed by the president Donald Trumpincluding the deputy secretary of state, are embroiled in a months-long fight that includes accusations of media leaks and “bizarre” threats of defamation – all over emails sometimes involving more than a dozen administration officials.
The conflict is centered on Paolo Zampollia personal friend of Trump’s and a special envoy to the State Department and deputy secretary of state Christophe Landauaccording to posts obtained by POLITICO. The emails span nearly a year and show Zampolli and Landau at odds over chains of command. Pram reprimand Zampoli sticking to its mandate on cultural issues – but devolving into bitter arguments and unproven allegations.
The messages stand out not only for their personal nature, but also for the fact that more than 16 administration officials were at times included in the email chains, with the dispute at least once spilling over into communications with a senior foreign official, opening a window into the State Department’s delicate communications with its allies over apparent violations of diplomatic protocol.
“I order you – once again – to immediately stop all work on ANY issue not directly related to cultural diplomacy, including each of the issues you have mentioned in your recent emails. » Pram written to Zampoli in an email dated November 14, 2025.
