Visiting Norway makes toilets ‘great again’ after Trump’s ‘shithole country’ stunt

Norway’s tourist board has launched a tongue-in-cheek toilet campaign to show off the country’s most picturesque toilets after US President Donald Trump called the Nordic nation a “shithole country”.

Trump delivered his scathing comments on the campaign trail, days before voters went to the polls for the midterm elections..

Today, Visit Norway has adopted the label, asking: “Are these the best shit houses in the world?” ” in an online article that showcases the facilities available in the picturesque Scandinavian nation.

Highlighting its social media campaign this week, the tourism board posted several images and wrote: “So we’ve heard some noise about ‘our home’… What can we say, we have some of the most beautiful and spectacular toilets in the world.

The Norwegian marketing campaign shows photos and images of some of the most glorious facilities, accompanied by captions such as: “Norway makes shit great again! These toilets are worth the trip, both when you really have to go and when you don’t.”

Among the bathrooms featured is the one at the Stegastein viewpoint in the Sognefjord region, which, according to the tourist board, has been described as one of the top 10 public toilets in the world by DesignCurial. It also highlights the wave-shaped Ureddplassen on the coast of Helgeland.

Described on the site as “architectural masterpieces,” the toilets featured include a golden bathroom on the island of Senja, as well as a solar-powered one in the Sognefjord region.

Promising “more to come” when it comes to toilets built to impress, the website concludes: “Norway’s portfolio of spectacular toilets is, as you can see, filled with excellent examples of how something as boring as a toilet can become a tourist attraction.”

The US president also called Haiti, Libya, Somalia and Yemen “shithole countries”. But her attack on Norway appears to be due to her failure to win the Nobel Peace Prize, awarded earlier this month to South African human rights pioneer Navi Pillay.

The Norwegians repeatedly reminded Trump that the prize was awarded by an independent Nobel committee and not the Norwegian government.
