
Volkswagen’s best-seller becomes EV to replace the ID.4 (Images)

Volkswagen has revealed the ID. Tiguan, a 100% electric version of its best-selling vehicle. The identity document. Tiguan goes on sale in early 2027, replacing the ID.4 and ID.5 with a range of up to 372 miles and many other improvements.

The ID.4 and ID.5 are on their way out as new IDs. Tiguan intervenes. With more than 950,000 models sold since they went on sale in 2021, the ID.4 and ID.5 are at the heart of Volkswagen’s electric vehicle range.
Following the identity document. Polo shirt and ID. Cross, the identity document. Tiguan is the next to go on sale as the “real Volkswagen,” as the company calls it, bringing more than just a new name.
The identity document. The Tiguan is an improvement in almost every aspect over its predecessors, with a new design, updated technology and a refined interior.
Its “distinctive feature,” according to VW, is the completely redesigned exterior. Based on its new Pure Positive design language, the ID. The Tiguan looks more like the gasoline version with a traditional boxy SUV profile.

Volkswagen’s new electric SUV trades the aerodynamic design of the ID.4 for a wide and bulky front end. It also ditches flush door handles in favor of traditional pull handles.
As a result, the new ID. The Tiguan “feels like a premium segment vehicle,” Volkswagen said.

Inside, the identity document. The Tiguan features Volkswagen’s new interior design. The revised interior includes its new infotainment system, comprising a 10″ digital cockpit and 15″ central display screens. Additionally, there is an optional 12″ passenger screen.
One of the biggest changes inside is the return of physical buttons, which are now located under the central screen and on the steering wheel.

There’s also a fun new “Retro” mode that transforms the digital cockpit with iconic blue-red instruments from the Golf IV.
Meanwhile, drivers can choose from six different classic VW models to display in a virtual “garage” on the infotainment screen: Golf I, Golf II Country, Golf IV, Tiguan I, Race Touareg and Beetle.
The new Volkswagen ID. Tiguan will be available with two battery packs and three performance levels:
- a rear-wheel drive version with 140 kW (190 hp) and a 58 kWh battery
- a rear-wheel drive version with 210 kW (286 hp) and a 77 kWh battery
- and a 220 kW (299 hp) 4MOTION all-wheel drive variant, also with a 77 kWh battery.
Depending on the battery size and configuration, the ID. Tiguan offers a WLTP range of up to 600 km, a “new benchmark” for Volkswagen electric SUVs in Europe.
With up to 295 hp (299 hp), the ID. The Tiguan can tow up to 4,400 lbs (2,000 kg) with the 77 kWh battery. With the 58 kWh battery, towing capacity is approximately 4,000 lbs (1,800 kg).

The identity document. The Tiguan also comes standard with one-pedal driving and Volkswagen’s new Connected Travel Assist. It also supports vehicle charging (V2L), allowing it to power external electronic devices like an electric grill or e-bike.
For an additional cost, buyers can opt for electronically adjustable front seats with memory and ventilation, a premium Harmon Kardon audio system, and a panoramic sunroof.
Volkswagen will launch the ID. Tiguan in Germany and several other European markets on October 13, with prices starting at 42,695 euros ($47,800). It will be available in four versions: Trend, Life, Style and R-Line.
After its marketing in Europe until the beginning of 2027, Volkswagen declared the ID. Tiguan will replace the ID.4 in North America.
“The Tiguan is our best-selling model worldwide, and the ID.4 and ID.5 are among our most successful electric cars,” said VW brand CEO Thomas Shafer, adding that “the ID. Tiguan brings these two achievements together.”
Pricing and other details will be announced “in due course,” the company said. The current VW ID.4 uses an 82 kWh battery that provides an EPA-estimated range of up to 291 miles in the RWD version. The AWD model offers approximately 263 miles.
Since the European model offers almost 40 km more WLTP range than the outgoing ID.4, the ID. Tiguan will likely offer more than 300 miles on the EPA scale.
Volkswagen has not yet announced U.S. pricing. The outgoing ID.4 has a starting MSRP of around $45,000.
