Voters unhappy with high prices will get little relief from the next Congress
If voters expect a new Democratic Congress to lower prices, they will likely be disappointed.
House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (N.Y.) promises that the party’s “affordability agenda” will “lower the high cost of living in every area possible.” But the main drivers of inflation are the impact of the war in Iran on energy prices, the fallout from the artificial intelligence boom and President Donald Trump’s trade policies. Even if they take control of the House and Senate on November 3, Democrats are unlikely to end Trump’s war and tariffs in the face of his opposition – or to derail the AI boom.
