Driving the news: The Westchester County Board of Elections said Tuesday it is aware of a problem preventing voting machines from accepting paper ballots at polling places across the county.

  • The Board of Elections said it is talking with New York state officials and Westchester County government “to resolve this issue and ensure voting continues with as little disruption as possible.”

  • The cause remains unclear. Election officials initially blamed the thickness of paper ballots, but later removed that explanation from their statement, according to reports.
  • New York Attorney General Letitia James wrote on X that her office was monitoring the matter.

What they say: Lawler said officials were working with vendors to resolve the issue, while Conley reassured voters that their ballots would count.

  • Westchester County government wrote on its website: “Let us be absolutely clear: Every eligible vote will be counted. »

What we hear: Voters in the county told Fox 5 NY they had to fill out paper ballots instead of using the machines. Voters said their ballots were placed in a secure box.

  • Other voters shared their displeasure with the ballot issue on social media.
  • Katie Miller, wife of Trump adviser Stephen Miller, said on X: “This is how the left steals elections. Mike Lawler’s competitive district and they turn away voters.”

Context: The county covers about 30 percent of New York’s 17th District, which Lawler represents. The contest has emerged as a key battleground in Democrats’ efforts to take control of the House.

Zoom out: The ballot analysis problems come as technological vulnerabilities are a key issue heading into the midterm elections, with researchers saying some vulnerabilities remain in plain sight.

What’s next: Voters at the affected polling stations were asked to queue and vote.
