At this rate, the Stargate may have to be renamed the Revolving Stargate, Empirians. Last November, Amazon announced a new Stargate franchise veteran series and Blind spot creator Martin Gero. Then, just seven months later, Uncle Bezos decided to close his Waller and Gero’s store. Stargate was unceremoniously deleted before it even began. Now, according to VarietyFrom the report, it looks like Amazon is ready to reopen the Stargate after all, but this time with WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer on board to send new recruits through the series’ titular ring-shaped portals.
According to VarietySchaeffer – who has an overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios – is developing an all-new Stargate series for Prime Video, with a writers room expected to open very soon and producers’ spouses Joby Harold (Obi-Wan Kenobi) and Tory Tunnell (Monarch: Legacy of Monsters) on board the executive producer. More details on what Schaeffer is cooking and whether past projects such as the original 1994 Kurt Russell film, Stargate SG-1, Stargate: AtlantisAnd Stargate: Universe will remain canon or have any connection to this proposed new series, all will remain firmly under wraps… at least for now.
Living as we do in the age of cutting-edge science fiction television, with everything from Extraterrestrial: Earth has The extent, Foundation has SiloAnd 3 Body Problem has Star Trek: Strange New Worlds lighting up our small screens to give us our dose of speculative fiction these days, maybe – just maybe! – now I could Finally it will be the time to bring Stargate back after 16 years on the back burner. And if anyone can do it, then Schaeffer – whose WandaVision And Agatha throughout both demonstrate the bona fides of the genre and still rank among the best series of the Disney+ era of the MCU – it’s surely possible. Consider us prepared and ready to go down, down, down the road, down the Stargate Road again…if this one actually airs!
