Washington State Ferries suspends Edmonds/Kingston route
The timing is strange, but the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has been planning this overnight closure for weeks.
This, coincidentally, follows the apparent spontaneous “breakdown” that Washington State Ferries (WSF) engineers executed Monday morning. This caused the ferry system to come to a halt with most routes closed and only a few routes operating with very limited service throughout the day.
The Edmonds/Kingston ferry route will be suspended due to rail work that BNSF says is critical and must take place at that time. The WSF said it had “explored ways to maintain service”, but rail work requires the crossing arms to be lowered, and there is no way around this.
Edmonds/Kingston Closure Details
FFrom 7 p.m. Tuesday until approximately 10 a.m. Wednesday, the closure will block access to the Edmonds Ferry Terminal.
The last crossings on Tuesday will be at 6:10 p.m. from Kingston and 7 p.m. from Edmonds. Service is expected to resume at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday from Kingston and 10:20 a.m. from Edmonds, provided the crossing reopens as scheduled.
Walk-in passengers traveling between Kingston and the Seattle area may want to consider Kitsap Transit transit. Kingston Fast Ferry to Downtown Seattle.
Other customers should plan to use an alternate route or make other travel arrangements during the suspension.
