What Timothy L. Farnes Said in October 2026 General Conference – Church News
General of Young Men President Timothy L. Farnes spoke at the Saturday afternoon session October 2026 General Conference on Compassionate Ministry to Others. The following is a summary of what he said.
Summary of President Farnes’ speech
“As covenant followers of Jesus Christ, we compassionately serve anyone God places in our path. We do it because that is what the Savior did. And we have made a covenant to follow Him.”
Through the sacrament, Latter-day Saints testify to Heavenly Father of their willingness to take upon themselves the name of Jesus Christ. “It means that we choose to see as he sees, to feel as he feels, and to do as he would do. His life should be reflected in ours. It means that when someone meets us, they should experience something of Jesus Christ: his kindness, his patience, his hope, his love, his compassion.”
The Lord promises that the saints will have his Spirit with them; with this gift, they can minister as the Savior would, with His power and goodness.
Connecting with God’s children is a way to stay connected to Him. “Often this happens when God places someone in our path and we have eyes to see them. I call these ‘divine appointments’…
“Let us pray every day that our eyes see the divine appointments that God places before us. Let us put compassion into action and serve the person in front of us. That is what Jesus did.”
