What to expect from Apple’s ‘Pro and tell’ event

This looks like Apple’s Welcome Home event just arrived. And the iPhone Duo announcement isn’t that far in our rearview mirror either. Yet the company is back with another launch, reportedly focused on the MacBook Pro. His “Pro and tell” event is scheduled for October 28 at 1 p.m. ET in Los Angeles. While obviously nothing is confirmed yet, it looks like we’re finally going to get that long-rumored touchscreen MacBook Pro.

Beyond that? There could be an OLED update for the iPad Mini, as well as M6 updates on other devices, after the M6 debuts with the Mac Mini in August.

A touchscreen MacBook Pro

A MacBook Pro with an OLED touchscreen has been rumored since at least early 2023. But now, in late 2026, it could finally come to fruition. The name MacBook Ultra has been floating around, but Apple is unlikely to rename its flagship line of laptops.

This will be Apple’s first touchscreen laptop and first OLED laptop. It will supposedly feature a dynamic iPhone-like island, but don’t expect a dramatic overhaul of the macOS interface. The touchscreen MacBook won’t be some sort of hybrid iPad. It may include a few flourishes, like a magnification effect when you touch the screen or new gesture controls in native apps. But that’s all.

That doesn’t mean there won’t be an M6 MacBook Pro, though. The base model MacBook Pro could see an upgrade over the M5 after the M6 debuted on the Mac Mini earlier this year. It could also get a slight redesign, including a punch-hole style camera. Unfortunately, they’re also expected to lead to higher prices as component shortages trickle down to Apple’s lineup.

The iMac is also expected to get an M6 update, almost two years after its last revision. Apple’s all-in-one desktop looks set to go directly above the M5. Don’t expect any real changes beyond that, though. But at least we could have new color options, just like we did with the M4 model.

Another long-talked about device that could finally debut on Wednesday is the iPad Mini OLED. Aside from the iPad Pro, the tablet lineup has so far stuck to LCD screens. The new OLED iPad could kick off a broader transition for the product line. Upgrading the screen can add $100 to the cost, however. Otherwise, it probably won’t be a significant redesign, but expect a processor upgrade from the aging A17 to the A20 that debuted with the iPhone 18.
