Large and complicated divorces. Evil deaths and evil women. Cowboy US Marshals makes sure that never a dull moment passes under the big Montana skies. From adaptations of classic American novels to a whole slew of horror films and everything in between, this weekend’s user-friendly streaming guide is packed with new TV shows and movies to watch.
We don’t have as many season finales this weekend as last, but the one we have is Lanterns, and it’s a big problem. We also have several series premieres and a bunch of movies that will be released on streaming and in theaters.
As always, I’ve searched the deepest, darkest corners of the internet for the best streaming TV shows and movies on Netflix, Prime Video, Apple TV, Disney+, and everything in between, from MGM+ to Starz to Peacock and beyond. I’ve collected everything I found into this handy guide.
NOTE: I haven’t watched all of these (some aren’t out at the time this is posted and others just aren’t on my review schedule), so some of these are my own personal recommendations while others are simply TV shows or movies to keep on your radar because they look interesting.
Of course, if you have any recommendations, tips, or other comments, please feel free to send me a message. Let me know what you’re watching these days, or if you liked anything you found through this guide, at Twitter, InstagramOr Facebook. Don’t forget to also check out last weekend’s streaming guide below:
Alright, let’s go!
New TV Shows to Watch This Weekend
East of Eden -Netflix
New episodes: All seven episodes were released on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
Season finale: Already available.
What is it: Florence Pugh stars as Cathy Ames in this adaptation of John Steinbeck’s novel, which follows the Trask and Hamilton families through generations of rivalry, betrayal and difficult relationships in California’s Salinas Valley. Christopher Abbott and Mike Faist play brothers Adam and Charles Trask, with Ciarán Hinds and Martha Plimpton co-starring. Writer and creator Zoe Kazan has a family connection to the material: her grandfather, Elia Kazan, directed the 1955 adaptation starring James Dean. The series currently holds 85% off Rotten Tomatoes.
A major change from the book: It’s been ages since I’ve seen the original film or read Steinbeck’s novel, but this I find curious and . . . The reframing of Cathy as an anti-hero with a complex moral framework rather than an “ill-formed soul” as Steinbeck puts it is potentially quite controversial about this adaptation. She was the embodiment of evil in the original, but here she is humanized. I almost don’t know if I should reread the book before embarking on this adaptation. Maybe I would enjoy the show more if I didn’t.
War —HBO/HBO Max
New episodes: Thursdays.
Season finale: Thursday November 19, 2026.
What is it: A billionaire’s divorce becomes a lucrative battle for two rival London law firms in this drama Lupine And Divert creator George Kay. Dominic West stars as tech entrepreneur Morgan Henderson alongside Sienna Miller as his actress wife, Carla Duval, while Phoebe Fox, James McArdle and Nina Sosanya play lawyers navigating their crumbling marriage. The marital war extends to professional rivalries, secrets and betrayals between the lawyers themselves. The eight-episode first season currently has 84% off Rotten Tomatoes.
Why should you watch: I watched the first episode of War and I’m working on a review as we speak. Of course, from the start I was thinking of the classic film, War of the Roseswhich also concerns divorce. It’s a very different kind of story.
In any case, I thought the season premiere was pretty good, even if it mostly sets the stage for what’s to come. This setup is pretty juicy though, with a very big divorce and some fun little twists at the end. It’s a little weird to see McNulty (aka Dominic West’s character in The thread) as a suave British tech mogul, but that’s just because I’ll always think of him as the drunken, brilliant Baltimore police detective he played rather than the true Brit he is in real life. I will definitely be watching this one every week and writing recaps here on this blog. Watch it and tell me what you think.
Marshals —CBS/Paramount+
New episodes: Sundays on CBS; Mondays on Paramount+ on demand. Season 2 premieres Sunday, October 4.
Season finale: To be determined
What is it: Luke Grimes returns as Kayce Dutton in the Yellow stone spin-off that puts his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL at the service of a US Marshals unit based in Montana. Logan Marshall-Green, Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos and Tatanka Means star as his teammates, with Brecken Merrill returning as Tate. Spencer Hudnut is the showrunner, with Taylor Sheridan as executive producer. Season 2 opens with Kayce running to save her son from a hostage situation related to a criminal land grab (which is not the first time Kayce has had to save her son from a hostage situation). No Rotten Tomatoes scores from season 2 are available yet.
Why should you watch: If you’re a Yellowstone fan and want more action-packed cowboy and crime dramas set in Montana, this is a no-brainer. Sure, it’s not the prestige television that Yellowstone was, and it’s more of a police procedural than a character-driven story of dynastic succession, but Kayce Dutton is back and her first season was a huge success.
Kill Jackie -AMC+
New episodes: Fridays.
Season finale: Friday November 20, 2026.
What is it: Catherine Zeta-Jones plays Jackie Price, a former drug dealer who spent twenty years hiding behind a comfortable life selling expensive works of art. When she discovers that seven assassins have been hired to kill her, she decides to hunt them down first. Daniel Ings, Sidse Babett Knudsen and Ron Perlman co-star. The creative team includes London gangs the writer Tom Butterworth and Kill Eve director Damon Thomas. It adapts The price you pay by Aidan Truhen, real name Nick Harkaway, son of John le Carré writing under a pseudonym. The series currently has 50% off Rotten Tomatoes.
Honestly? Judging by the reviews, maybe you should just read the book instead!
Tiptoe —Starz
New episodes: Fridays.
Series finale: Friday October 30, 2026.
What is it: Alan Cumming and David Morrissey star as long-time Manchester neighbors Leo and Clive, whose relationship spirals into an increasingly dangerous feud involving suspicion, lies and growing prejudice. Written by Russell T. Davies and directed by Peter Hoar, the five-part British drama examines how hostility and radicalization can poison a seemingly ordinary neighborhood. Elizabeth Berrington, Pooky Quesnel and Paul Rhys complete the cast. Originally broadcast in Britain, the series debuts in the United States this weekend with 95% off Rotten Tomatoes.
Why should you watch: This looks really great, and what casting. Everyone knows Alan Cumming from Traitors by now, but here we really see him embody his character. I saw David Morrissey on two shows: as Governor of The Walking Dead and as DCS Ian St Clair in the BBC series Sherwood. These are two extremely talented actors, and the trailer really highlights how quickly divergent views on social issues can lead. . . very bad things. I’ll be honest, when the trailer started I thought it was going to be a comedy!
New movies to watch this weekend
The Widower: Until Death Do Us Part -Netflix
Yes, I missed it in the formatted entries. It belongs under New movies to watch this weekend.
The Widower: Until Death Do Us Part -Netflix
Release date: Wednesday September 30, 2026.
What is it: This true-crime documentary examines the case of Thomas Randolph, whose history of marriages and suspicious deaths earned him the nickname “the Black Widower.” The new film follows the journalist and detective who worked tirelessly to uncover the truth behind Randolph’s charming exterior, tracing a story of manipulation, betrayal and possible murder spanning three decades. The film topped the list of most-watched films on Netflix and has an excellent RT score.
Evil Burn -HBO Max
Release date: Friday October 2, 2026.
What is it: A grieving widow visits her husband’s family in their isolated home, only for the relatives to begin transforming into Deadites. Souheila Yacoub leads a cast including Hunter Doohan, Luciane Buchanan and Tandi Wright in this standalone installment of the horror franchise. Sébastien Vaniček, who directed the spider horror film Infesteddirects and co-writes, with Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert producing. Expect another deeply unpleasant family reunion and plenty of gore; the film is currently holding 70% off Rotten Tomatoes.
What else could you watch: I haven’t seen it yet, but I really enjoyed Ash vs Evil Dead on Starz. This was a truly scary and hilarious TV show and Bruce Campbell is better than ever. It also stars Lucy Lawless, aka Xena Warrior Princess! The series has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 99%.
SOULM8TE —Hulu
Release date: Thursday October 1, 2026.
What is it: A grieving engineer attempts to transform an advanced AI companion into a truly sentient partner, with dangerous consequences when she develops desires of her own. David Rysdahl plays the engineer, Lily Sullivan plays the artificial companion, and Claudia Doumit is the co-star. Directed by Kate Dolan, this adult sci-fi thriller expands the M3GAN the universe in romantic obsession. Its path to release was strewn with pitfalls: Universal canceled its planned theatrical opening after M3GAN2.0Disappointing performance. Critics haven’t been particularly welcoming either, giving it 39% off Rotten Tomatoes.
What to watch instead: So, putting aside the . . . the bad choices that led to this film…
