WhatsApp announces four new features to make group chats easier to manage

In a blog post this week, WhatsApp confirmed the rollout of four new features designed to make it easier to manage group chats and track what’s happening in each one. Here are the details.
Four new features coming to WhatsApp group chats
WhatsApp announced this week that the filter drawer, which appears when users swipe down on the conversations list, will now include a “Mentions & Replies” button alongside other filter options such as groups, favorites, unread and custom filters.
Once tapped, the chat list will only show “unread group conversations in which you were mentioned or received a direct reply, including @all messages,” WhatsApp says.
Additionally, WhatsApp will now allow users to pin messages in group chats indefinitely, rather than choosing between 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days.
Another chat feature offered to groups is the ability to “send recent messages to someone retroactively after joining a group by simply tapping their name in chat.” Previously, this was only possible when adding someone to a group, rather than after they joined.
Finally, WhatsApp is rolling out group status sharing, which allows users to post updates visible only to members of a specific group. Other members can view, react and add their own statuses, which disappear after 24 hours.
As is often the case with WhatsApp updates, it may take a while before all four features are available to everyone. To view the full announcement, follow this link.
