The White House on Friday evening barred CNN from joining President Donald Trump on his trip to Tennessee on Saturday, where it was supposed to cover the president on behalf of the major television networks.
According to reports from the White House Friday evening, CNN was removed from the list of media outlets designated to jointly cover Trump’s trip, during which he is scheduled to attend a college football game in Knoxville.
The pool is a rotating group of networks that share the task of filming the president both in Washington and on his official trips. Other member networks – Fox News, ABC News, CBS News and NBC News – briefly boycotted their participation in the pool this week after Trump banned CNN from being a member.
CNN reported Friday that she was scheduled to fly with Trump on Air Force One Saturday as part of her pool duties covering the president’s trip to the University of Texas-University of Tennessee game. However, in the president’s schedule released Friday evening, CNN was not listed as a member of the pool and no other network was listed to replace it.
The move is the latest development in the White House’s attempt to restrict CNN and other media outlets’ access to White House coverage. Last week, the president banned CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House before a judge temporarily blocked the move on Thursday and ordered the administration to reinstate their journalists’ credentials for 14 days.
But while the order restores media access to the White House, it does not explicitly require the administration to restore CNN’s participation in the television pool.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
