The story of how Larry David left his job Saturday evening live the writer will make the audience laugh.
“My sketches would work great when proofreading, and then they would invariably get cut week after week,” said the Limit your enthusiasm star explained in a 2015 episode of The Howard Stern Show. “And then one night, before the show, another one of my sketches was filmed at 11:25 p.m., five minutes before the show started. I had enough.”
So, Larry continued, he went to the executive producer. Dick Ebersol and said, “This fucking show stinks. It stinks! It’s shit! I’m done! I’m out! Fuck that! I’m out!”
Driving home in the cold, he said, he realized what he had done and how much money he would lose. So, Larry came back the next week as if nothing had happened.
“There’s a writers’ meeting every Monday morning, and I walk into the meeting,” he continued. “The writers had heard the explosion, and I sat down. And then he was going around and asking everyone what they were working on for the week. And I was about fifth on the couch. And then he came up to me and I said, ‘Well, I’m thinking of doing this circus sketch.'”
Larry was able to keep his job and stay there for another year. But it was here Seinfeld the creator met the star of his sitcom Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
Over the years, Larry has hosted SNL twice and made numerous guest appearances, including playing the role of the Vermont senator Bernie Sanders.
