As stated, Neverwinter Nights limits each player to a single character, but this adds a new role: a dungeon master, who can spawn enemies, occupy and act as NPCs, and more, to aid in group storytelling, similar to a pen-and-paper game.

The game’s modding kit and easy-to-use scripting tools allow players to create scenarios relatively quickly. It essentially allows players to create a small RPG world, manage it, and inhabit it. The combination of the relative simplicity of the graphics and the elegance of the tools makes this set of tools an exceptionally excellent balance of flexibility, power, and ease of learning.
“Tile-based zones are basic and limiting in some ways, but they mean building zones is quick and easy,” NelaK explained. “It’s much more accessible than a lot of other platforms.”
For NelaK and some others in the gaming community today, the game’s tools aren’t just the remaining draw: they’re the main draw.
“I played Neverwinter Nights since launch day. I remember a friend of mine dragged me to the store because they really wanted the game and I went there just to keep them company,” he recalls. “I ended up buying it and have been hooked ever since, but to this day I still never played the original campaigns…and yet I played Neverwinter Nights or spent time building or working on something Neverwinter Nights-linked almost every day since.
