Wladimir Klitschko, Hayden Panettiere’s ex, asks to protect their daughter’s inheritance

Actor Hayden Panettiere’s ex-fiance Wladimir Klitschko has filed an urgent motion asking that he be allowed to act as their 11-year-old daughter’s temporary representative in a California court to protect his inheritance following the death of her mother.
Klitschko, a former Ukrainian world champion boxer, had full custody of the girl Kaya for most of her life and she lived with him in Ukraine. Kaya is Panettiere’s sole heir. The filing in a Los Angeles County court cites items seized as part of a federal investigation into the actor’s death, unnamed and unauthorized people accessing his Los Angeles residence and missing valuables.
The petition says it is “urgent and essential” that Klitschko be granted legal status as temporary guardian of his daughter’s estate.
“Without immediate appointment for these purposes, there is a high probability that assets belonging to Hayden’s estate will be lost, damaged or dissipated before a duly appointed personal representative can be in place to protect them,” the filing states.
Klitschko’s lawyers filed the motion Thursday, but it wasn’t made public until Monday, when it was reported by TMZ. The filing emphasizes that his intention is only to protect his daughter’s future assets until a permanent administrator can be put in place.
Panettiere, the former star of the television series “Heroes” and “Nashville,” died on August 16 at the age of 36. A coroner’s report obtained by The Associated Press said her death was due to an accidental overdose of several drugs, including fentanyl, and that she had been in rehab weeks before. She was found unconscious in an apartment in Greenville, South Carolina.
The petition says federal agents took Panettiere’s property as part of an investigation, and there is no authorized person to deal with them and ensure it is returned.
The filing says that before his death, Panettiere and Klitschko hired security to protect his home because an unnamed person had gained unauthorized access. The petition states that the same person is expected to continue to attempt to “misappropriate” assets belonging to their estate.
A hearing on the matter is scheduled for October 8.
In her memoir published earlier this year, Panettiere admitted to being addicted to alcohol and suffering from postpartum depression after the birth of her daughter in 2014. Kaya went to live full-time with Klitschko when she was 2 years old. Panettiere’s father told investigators that when she died, she had planned to visit her daughter in Ukraine a few days later.
Klitschko, 50, an Olympic gold medalist, held multiple heavyweight titles between 2000 and 2015. He and Panettiere began dating in 2009 and became engaged in 2013.
His older brother Vitali, also a former boxing champion, is mayor of kyiv, the Ukrainian capital. The two brothers, sons of a Soviet major general, worked to protect their country during the war against Russia.
