Woman arrested in Philadelphia for blocking delivery robot
Carolyn Marvin was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct after she blocked the path of an Uber delivery robot and refused to move out of the way. Marvin said in Philadelphia ABC13 “I know they are taking jobs from human delivery people and so, I protested against them every time I saw them by standing in front of them and stopping them from moving forward.”
Police responded to the scene and asked Marvin to move out of the robot’s path. When she refused, they handcuffed her and arrested her. The incident was caught on camera and has now received media attention.
Delivery robots have become commonplace on the streets of downtown Philadelphia and have sparked backlash. This isn’t even Marvin’s first contact with them. And earlier this year, one was knocked down in the city center. There are serious concerns about the impact of autonomous systems, including robo-taxis, delivery robots and AI agents, on employment, particularly for low-skilled workers.
