A man is under arrest for the murder of a 63-year-old woman in Central Park, New York police confirmed Sunday evening.
Jonathan Robles, 36, was arrested on charges of murder and criminal possession of a weapon around 9 p.m. The address listed for Robles on West 36th St. is the site of the Barbour Hotel homeless shelter in Hell’s Kitchen.
Investigators said Sunday evening that the victim, who was found near East Drive and East 74th St., suffered from head trauma. Police walked back an earlier statement that the woman had been stabbed.
New York police said they received a call about an unconscious woman around 9:40 a.m., as a slow-moving snowstorm flooded the area. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

This death shook some visitors to Central Park.
“Terrible. It’s our playground. It’s our backyard…it’s the last thing you want to happen,” said John, a New York resident.

“It’s very terrible and sad news because we are tourists and we hope to have a good time, so it’s very sad,” said Guadalupe García, a tourist. “I’ll try to enjoy the park at that time and not in the dark, for example.”
“I’m scared for my life, obviously, you know, I don’t know. It’s just worrying, you know, for all women,” said another tourist.
Police believe the victim may have been homeless.
