The United States will host the first Women’s Club World Cup in January 2028, Fifa has confirmed.
Arsenal have been named as one of seven teams set to take part in the tournament, with a further 12 clubs to be determined at a later date.
The 19-team tournament, designed to echo the new Men’s Club World Cup and take place every four years, is scheduled for January 5-30, 2028.
The United States hosted the men’s Club World Cup in 2025 and co-hosted the men’s World Cup this summer, along with Mexico and Canada.
The country is also set to co-host the Women’s World Cup with Costa Rica, Jamaica and Mexico in 2031.
“Ultimately, the United States’ recent excellence in hosting FIFA’s biggest tournaments, combined with the significant interest in women’s soccer in this country and its elite sports infrastructure, made this country a standout option,” said Sarai Bareman, head of women’s soccer at Fifa.
Barcelona, Gotham, Club America, Corinthians, Naegohyang and Wuhan Jiangda have also booked their place in the tournament.
Six other European clubs will be selected to represent UEFA, while there will be three clubs each from AFC (Asia), CAF (Africa), Concacaf (North America, Central America and the Caribbean) and Conmebol (South America), and one from OFC (Oceania).
“These seven clubs, and a dozen more, will come together to showcase the strength and depth of women’s club football to a global audience,” added Bareman.
“They will have the opportunity to tell their story, expand their fan base and represent their club on the world stage. They have fully earned this opportunity to be a part of American history.”
Earlier this year, the Women’s Super League described the Club World Cup schedule as potentially “catastrophic”.
It is the second mid-season women’s competition introduced by Fifa in recent years, following the Champions Cup, which was first held in February and won by Arsenal.
