Yellow vests is ready to tell his rescue story.
“After 19 months, the Wiskayok High Yellowjackets have been FOUND and rescued” — that’s the headline from the hit Showtime series as it promotes its fourth and final season with a clip from MTV News anchor Serena Altschul.
The series has already dipped into the MTV News nostalgia well, announcing the premiere date for season four as November 20 – also about 19 months after season three ended. Now, a new teaser (below) shows what series bosses Ashley Lyle, Bart Nickerson and Jonathan Lisco have been hinting at all along – there’s more to the story once these teens return home to their native New Jersey.
The series centers on the survivors and the secrets they kept (including that of “Pit Girl”) when, as teenagers, their high school football team’s plane crashed and stranded them in the Canadian wilderness. The series was set in 1998, after the crash of the team called the Yellowjackets, and today, following the adult survivors played by Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Tawny Cypress, Hilary Swank and (formerly) Juliette Lewis, Lauren Ambrose and Simone Kessell.
Now, the long-awaited third timeline will finally unfold in season four, after the cliffhanger ending season three. For the teaser, The Hollywood Reporter has learned that the show collaborated with Altschul to film a new MTV News segment and that, with his approval, used advanced editing technology to blend his new performance with archival footage.
Morissette, who previously covered the show’s theme song “No Return,” recorded the original audio for the intro, and audio tools incorporated the new intro into her MTV unplugged performance.
After a killer season that was its darkest yet, season three had a revelatory ending that answered important and even bigger questions, then followed teenager Natalie (Sophie Thatcher) to the top of a mountain where she makes a connection with the outside world. The final scene had the teens on the verge of being saved, giving the coming-of-age horror drama the opportunity to explore the most anticipated timeline of all: when these cannibalistic teens were finally saved and re-assimilated into society after everything they’ve done.
The teaser teases that in season four, the Yellowjackets players will return home to glory and celebration (including crowds watching the popular MTV movie). TRL Workshops). The show also recreated an iconic Alanis Morissette moment (the show is known for its needle drops), where the singer dedicated MTV unplugged performance of “Ironic” to the rescued girls, now a “symbol of hope”.
The last season of Yellow vests will feature Lynskey, Ricci, Cypress, Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Thatcher, Samantha Hanratty, Courtney Eaton, Liv Hewson, Warren Kole, Kevin Alves, Sarah Desjardins, Nia Sondaya, Jenna Burgess and Swank.
Lyle and Bart Nickerson created the series, produced by Lionsgate Television. They serve as co-showrunners and executive producers with Lisco, Creative Engine’s Drew Comins, Jeff W. Byrd, Sarah L. Thompson, Ameni Rozsa and Julia Bicknell.
