YouTube puts new labels on AI-generated songs
YouTube is adding a “Made with AI” label to tracks that have been “edited or entirely generated” using AI, with an approach similar to its existing process for applying AI labels to videos. It doesn’t seem like this applies to any use of AI tools to create music, but according to YouTube it includes things like “using a generative model to create composition and vocals.” In its rules for music partners uploading their songs, YouTube explains how to disclose AI generative use and says that if there is no disclosure, it may use “other signals” to decide whether a song is AI-generated.
The label is rolling out starting today in the YouTube Music app and will expand to the main YouTube app later.
You can see more details by tapping the label on the player page:
When you listen to a song on YouTube Music in which AI played an important role, you will see a tag directly on the player page. Tapping the label opens a simple menu that shares more information.
We team up with music partners and use our own detection tools to identify AI-generated tracks, applying the same tagging principles already used on YouTube. Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for viewers and listeners to have the information and clarity they need when it comes to the music they are listening to.
