YouTube says it’s not testing hiding the Dislike button
On Tuesday, I posted about how YouTube seemed to be testing hiding the Dislike button on videos, with at least two users out of X sharing screenshots of the Dislike button being moved to the three-dot menu. But a YouTube spokesperson, in a statement Wednesday to The edgeconfirmed that YouTube is “not testing hiding the Dislike button on YouTube for users.”
However, YouTube East introducing a new UI for creators on their uploaded videos, where the Dislike button will be moved.
Here is the full statement from spokesperson Kimberly Taylor:
We don’t test hiding the Dislike button on YouTube for users. We’re introducing a new UI for creators on their own uploaded videos, where dislikes are behind the three-dot menu and, as always, they can find the total number of dislikes in Studio, along with other analytics.
The new UI will roll out to creators in “the coming weeks,” Taylor said.
The change for creators follows past tweaks to the Dislike button on the platform. YouTube hid the public number of video dislikes starting in 2021 to prevent harassment, and removed the dislike button for Shorts’ video earlier this year.
October 21 update: Added context on Taylor’s UI deployment schedule.
