TOWN OF YUBA, CA. —
A child in Yuba City came into contact with a bat on the ground that later tested positive for rabies, the Sutter Animal Services Authority said.
The child came into contact with the bat on September 25 in front of the family’s home on Casita Drive.

The bat was then collected by the Sutter Animal Services Authority and tested by the Sacramento County Public Health Laboratory. (The photo above is a stock image of a bat, not the one involved.)
The child’s parents were notified of medical services in response. Details about whether the child contracted rabies have not been released.
Sutter Animal Services urged people to never touch bats and to keep their pets’ rabies vaccinations up to date.
