Zelda Fans Are Personally Victims Of Ocarina Of Time Remake’s Skip Button

There was a time when Link, the Hero of Time who saved Hyrule several times during his reincarnation lives, could instinctively jump. As a player, you simply had to run him to the edge of one platform and he would simply jump to the next one. THE Ocarina of time remakewhich spruces up the N64 classic for the Switch 2, also adds a manual jump button so players can freely jump from location to location. This sounds good in theory, but if you are someone who played the original Ocarina of time enough to be able to run through it blindfolded, this change could land you face-planting in the depths below within the first few hours of the game.

I didn’t play Ocarina of time in, my goodness, well over a decade at this point. I never even got around to playing the 3DS remake back in 2011. So it’s been a minute since I ran across the open fields of Hyrule, but I still instinctively feel like Link should jump when he steps off a ledge. Well, that’s not the case, not this time. More than once now, I’ve tried to jump to safety, only to have Link practically pencil-dive into the chasm below. I haven’t had a fatal fall yet, as water or reasonably close ground is usually waiting when I screw this up. But who knows what dangers await me as my journey through Hyrule continues?

Luckily, I’m not the only one being misled by decades of muscle memory, and it’s at least nice to have something stupid to bond over so early in the game.

Fortunately, Ocarina of time is a reasonably long game, so you have plenty of time to unlearn old habits and stop falling to your doom. I hope we all figure this out before we get to the lava-based levels, because I doubt this extremely detailed tunic will survive being dropped into a 1000 degree heat emitting substance.
