Nintendo has just published the first two parts of a new Ask the Developer series dedicated to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Switch 2. In addition to lots of interesting information about the game’s development, the interview finally reveals the development team behind it.

It turns out that the Switch 2 remake was developed in-house by Nintendo Entertainment Planning & Development (EPD) Production Group #3 – the team that has handled just about every Zelda entry since the early 2000s.

The remake saw HokWai Ng take on the role of director (his first directing role in the company, although he also worked on Tears of the Kingdom), with Aya Shida (Pikmin 3, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Tears of the Kingdom) serving as art director, Hiroki Taguchi (Breath of the Wild) as program director and Masato Ohashi (Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Splatoon 3 Expansion Pass) as as musical manager and one of the sound managers. Directors.

There was a part of us that thought Nintendo might bring in another studio to work on the remake – especially as it seemed more and more faithful to the original – but it’s nice to see that it was more of an in-house job. Don’t worry, Legends of Zelda Eiji Aonuma and Hidemaro Fujibayashi both served as producers on the project.

Parts three and four of the OoT Ask the Developer series will be released tomorrow (November 3), so we’re sure there will be even more dev stories to come. My goodness, what a week to be a Zelda fan!

Did you think Ocarina would be developed in-house on Switch 2? Let us know in the comments.
