21,000 charging devices sold on Amazon recalled after explosions, more than $2 million in damage

More than 21,000 charging devices sold on Amazon are being recalled after nine reports of device explosions, one report of a consumer burn and a serious fire resulting in $2 million in property damage.

NEWDERY power banks are being recalled due to serious fire, burn and injury hazards, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

“The lithium-ion battery in power banks may explode or ignite, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers,” the recall warns.

The products are black with yellow cables.

The brand name “NEWDERY” is engraved on the front and the model number “ZHX-PB22” printed on the back.

The recalled products were sold nationwide on Amazon from October 2023 to November 2024 for $27 to $50.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled power banks and contact NEWDERY for instructions on how to receive a full refund,” the recall states.

To receive a full refund, consumers will be asked to submit a photo of the power bank with the model number and serial number visible.

Consumers are asked to write the word “recalled” and their last name on the power bank with a permanent marker, then confirm that they have disposed of the power banks before receiving a refund.
