DETROIT (WXYZ) — Three people died and four others were injured Sunday morning after an after-hours shooting in Detroit, police said.
The shooting occurred around 7:20 a.m. in the area of Eaton Avenue and Prest Street, near Greenfield Road and Grand River Avenue.

Police Chief Todd Bettison said the department first received a ShotSpotter notification before a 911 call came in. He said officers arrived on scene within four minutes.
When they arrived, they found three people dead. People present at the scene attempted to help the victims before first responders arrived.
Four other people were privately transported to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, the chief said.
Bettison said there was an altercation that led to shots being fired. Police say there is no ongoing danger in the area.
“I want to start by offering our sincere condolences to the (families),” Bettison said at a news conference where he was joined by the mayor and other community leaders.

The victims have not yet been identified. However, the chief said the victims killed were three men aged approximately 30 and older.
The hospitalized victims are two women and two men aged in their twenties and thirties.
Bettison said his department investigated the scene and visited it several times.
“Since the beginning of this year, we have received seven calls for service to this address,” the chief said. “This address is not new to the Detroit Police… I have also investigated this address.”
The chief did not provide details about the investigation.
“Regardless of what happened in this particular location, no one deserves to end their life or be injured by guns,” Bettison said.
He said he had leads but didn’t go into detail.

“But to the community: please know that we will identify the individuals responsible for this heinous incident this morning. And we will do so as quickly as possible,” Bettison said. “We will work tirelessly around the clock to bring the perpetrator(s) to justice.”
Michigan State Police also responded to the scene.
“It’s absolutely heartbreaking,” Mayor Mary Sheffield said at the joint news conference. “I want to send my condolences, prayers and thoughts to the families, friends and this community who have been affected by this senseless violence in our community.”
Sheffield said the city will continue to crack down on illegal after-hours operations, whether they take place in businesses or homes.
“We know that the devastation of gun violence goes far beyond the incident itself,” the mayor said. “And as I stand here today, I see residents from across this community coming together and I want to reassure the community, family and friends that, through our Office of Community and Neighborhood Safety, we will have robust comprehensive services for this community and for families to continue moving forward as we all try to overcome this unfortunate loss.”
The shooting took place in a community violence response zone, where leaders focus on reducing violence and supporting the community. The Detroit 300 is the region’s CVI group.
“It’s unfortunate that families were awakened to the news of this type of tragedy,” said Detroit City Council President James Tate Jr.. “Whatever situation occurred, there is absolutely no justification for what we saw…I have full confidence in the police investigation. But I just ask that everyone please allow the police to conduct this investigation. Those responsible must be brought to justice.”
CVI leader Stephen Grady said the groups would work with police and the community to lead healing and prevention efforts.
“I want to extend my condolences to the families of those who were injured. We ask all Detroiters that this cannot continue in our neighborhoods. We are trying to create decent, safe neighborhoods for everyone to live in,” Grady said.
