Four people are dead after a shooting in the small Caribbean island nation of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
A manhunt is now underway where authorities are struggling to contain gang violence.
The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force said Friday evening that its officers responded to reports of gunfire in Green Hill, a district just outside the capital Kingstown.
“Two bodies were found lying on a public road, the body of a woman was discovered in a vehicle parked on the public road and in an adjacent lot, another body was discovered,” Acting Police Commissioner Trevor Bailey said at a press conference on Saturday.
Bailey said the bodies had what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
According to the Associated Press, four people were also injured in the shooting, two of whom remain hospitalized.
There were no immediate arrests, according to The AP, and police said they were still trying to determine the motive for the crime.
Police said they recorded another killing Saturday and are investigating whether it was related to Friday night’s shooting.
St. Clair Leacock, the minister of national security, condemned the “unfortunate” and “unnecessary” shootings in a speech on NBC Radio, a local media outlet, on Saturday.
He said that although Saint Vincent and the Grenadines remains a peaceful country, gang violence hits many communities.
According to police, 37 murders have been recorded this year in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, a country of 110,000 inhabitants.
