UFC Vegas 121: Raoni Barcelos stretched, hospitalized after scary fifth-round knockout by Raul Rosas Jr.
Raul Rosas Jr. walked out of UFC Vegas 121 with the biggest win of his career. We still don’t know exactly what happened.
The 21-year-old rising star defeated Raoni Barcelos in her first career main event, securing a necessary fifth-round knockout. It’s unclear exactly how he got the arrest, as Barcelos, 39, appeared to lose consciousness at or after the time he was arrested.
Barcelos had to be carried out of the Octagon on a stretcher, a surreal and frightening end to what was shaping up to be a Fight of the Year contender. He didn’t seem to be moving on the stretcher.

“I want everyone tonight to pray for Raoni Barcelos. He’s a warrior,” Rosas said in his post-fight interview.
The UFC later reported that both fighters were taken to hospital for head and neck scans.
Ariel Helwani of Uncrowned has learned that Barcelos has regained consciousness and is able to speak and move his fingers and toes.
Barcelos coach Davi Ramos released a subsequent statement echoing Helwani’s report.
It was an extremely intense fight, with both fighters each throwing over 300 total strikes and Barcelos (22-6) recording 22 takedown attempts. It all appeared to be part of a winning effort, as Barcelos dominated the second and fourth rounds and led by several points on all three scorecards heading into the fifth round. Barcelos even had a score of 10-8 in the fourth round on a judge’s scorecard.

Rosas (13-1) needed a finish to extend his winning streak to six victories. He got it, but we can only hope it didn’t come at the cost of anything serious for Barcelos.
