Oregon quarterback Dante Moore, a potential top pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, suffered a brutal blow to the head as he slipped during today’s game against USC and appeared unconscious on the field.
Moore ran 10 yards on second-and-9 in the second quarter, then slipped feet first. After Moore’s knee hit the ground, USC’s Desmond Stephens drove his shoulder into Moore’s head, hitting the back of Moore’s head against the ground. Moore immediately showed the fencing response that is often accompanied by severe head trauma.
Moore remained on the ground for several minutes before being placed on a stretcher and transported to an ambulance. He moved his hands and feet.
Stephens was called for being targeted and ejected from the game, and a fight nearly broke out when several Oregon players chased him and players from both teams began to leave the sideline, although officials and coaches managed to calm things down before it got out of hand.
Moore is one of the most talented quarterbacks in college football and was projected to be a first-round pick this year if he had turned pro. Instead, he decided to stay one more year at Oregon, and now the immediate concern is as much about his health as his football future.
