Since 1912, the Oreo cookie has never been one to rest on its laurels. The brand is so committed to flavor experimentation that the original version included both the classic Oreos we all love and a lemon meringue flavor. That first citrus Oreo may not have worked, but it didn’t hold back the brains behind the cookies. Over the past two decades, we’ve seen Swedish fish Oreos, kettle corn Oreos, and even a wasabi sandwich cookie. With all that to fight for, it’s no surprise that 2026 was a big year for the classic sweet snack. Maybe the brand is staying wacky to stay ahead of the best Oreo dupes.

Since January, we’ve seen bigger and wilder celebrity and brand collaborations, sweet and savory mashups, and an online competition to choose a winner between three new flavors. The team behind Oreos isn’t just looking for cookies to enjoy; he also wants commitment. This became clear in 2025 when fans were asked to vote for which discontinued flavor they wanted to bring back.

Despite all the noise around pre-sales of new cookie flavors, some of the new Oreo versions are actually very good, while others are love-it-or-hate-it enough to create intrigue. That’s why I scoured all the chatter for this roundup of the best Oreo flavors of the year. I’ve only included classics here, not Thins, Cakesters, or other new Oreo-flavored versions.

Oreo Banana Pudding

The Oreo Banana Pudding Cookies, released in August 2026, were one of three flavors from the limited-edition line that competed against each other in a promotional competition. The other two were Fried Oreos and Chicken and Waffle Oreos. The Twist-Lick-Vote competition asked Oreo lovers to taste all three before voting for their favorite. The winner will “come home,” which is honestly a pretty vague prize. Will it come back in a month? A year? Or will it be back forever, like the excellent Oreo Reese’s Cookies? Whatever the plan, the flavors were all so well received that the voting margins are probably slim.

For what it’s worth, my vote goes to the Banana Pudding cookies. Honestly, I’m a little shocked that there hasn’t been a banana flavored Oreo (pudding) yet. A while ago there were a bunch of banana pudding recipes using Golden Oreos on social media, so maybe those inspired Oreo HQ.

The vanilla cookies that sandwich the banana and vanilla pudding flavored filling are pretty much the same ones used in Golden Oreos, and the packaging is really similar. As a lover of banana pudding and artificial banana flavor, I’m glad the brand has finally come to fruition and brought them to market. If you hate Runts banana flavor, you may not like these cookies.

Fried Oreo

The most surprising thing about these cookies is that they actually taste similar to the fried Oreos you find at a state fair or restaurant. The second most surprising thing (at least to me) is the clever way the brand handled this.

The cookies look like extra-soft, extra-rich golden Oreos, and they taste like fried funnel cake batter. Inside, the cream again covers chocolate, white and chocolate. The dark chocolate creme tastes similar to standard Oreo cookies that are warm and softened in the fry basket, except they don’t burn your tongue. Unless you create a double-fried Oreo monstrosity, of course, and jazz up that limited-edition flavor. Honestly, if you did, it would be far from the weirdest fair food you could find in the United States.

A quick warning: A few editors think this flavor tastes like a standard Oreo left in the oven too long. Others have theorized that this burnt flavor is one of those things that some people can taste and others can’t detect at all, like the soapy cilantro phenomenon. You’ll have to try them yourself to find out if you’re cursed. If so, someone else in the house will definitely appreciate it.

Oreo Chicken and Waffles

Look, I didn’t mean to include these Chicken and Waffles Oreos. They look like rage bait. But somehow they are good. They’re even a hit on Reddit, albeit controversially. Many Redditors loved them, with one saying: “Chicken and waffles is the best, it’s so good.” Another was about as far in the other direction as possible, but realized it was an outlier and posted: “It was REVOLUTIONARY, but everyone at my work loved this flavor the most.”

It makes sense that this reaction is rare. When it comes down to it, these Oreos aren’t really that wild. Fried chicken and syrup-covered waffles are the inspiration for the flavor, and the biscuits are etched with the criss-cross of a breakfast waffle. The ingredients include natural smoke, yeast extract, paprika, salt, pepper and celery – which is probably why these vegetarian biscuits have a chicken flavor – as well as brown sugar, molasses and cinnamon. It’s definitely a nice sweet-salty Oreo combo that the brand hasn’t leaned into often, but it worked well with the limited-edition chocolate-covered pretzel flavor. I’d be happy to see them again next year, but we’ll have to see what happens with the Twist-Lick-Vote contest.

Oreo BTS

No, these Oreos are not BTS flavored. Much more aptly, they’re supposed to taste like a Korean street food called hotteok, which is essentially a crispy pan-fried pancake filled with brown sugar syrup. The cookies are also billed as the brand’s first-ever purple cookie, which I personally don’t think is much of a flexibility. There’s a reason there aren’t a ton of purple foods.

Despite their questionable color (which is a bit more muted in real life), the BTS crossover cookies were a hit when they hit shelves this summer after a pre-sale period. Brown Sugar Caramel Pancakes are a natural fit for cookies, and the 13 stamped designs bring limited-release perishable cookies closer to collectibles.

While it’s hard to imagine a more capitalistic collaboration than Mondelez International and the world’s most famous K-Pop group, the cookies were tasty, the gimmick worked, and yes, obviously I would eat a whole pack of them if they were put in front of me. For the record, I also liked Selena Gomez Oreos. I guess I’m part of the problem.

Easter Oreo Colored Cream

Okay, that’s a bit of a cheat because these Easter Colored Cream Cookies are just Double Stuf Oreos but much cuter. As we should all know, Double Stuf Oreos are already the best kind of Oreo (please don’t find my work email and challenge me on this; I’ve decided). Not surprisingly, making the filling pink and yellow and printing cute little Easter-themed chicks and bunnies on the cookies made them taste better. There are even cutouts for the nose and beak so the filling is visible. They are all around adorable.

Granted, some people might be put off by the Play-Doh vibe of this sweet snack, but I’m not kidding myself. I know Oreos aren’t made with ingredients I could find at a farmers market. If that were the case, I wouldn’t be able to eat an entire tube and still be hungry. In reality, bright colors only announce an existing truth. These were a limited edition around Easter and came in bags containing a single biscuit. Presumably this means they were intended for the kids’ Easter baskets and lunch boxes, but the big kids enjoyed them too, and we’ll be keeping an eye out for them next year. You can pack yourself a bagged lunch if you work from home, you know!
