Netflix’s ‘A Different World’ reboot has been renewed for a second season.
A revival of the NBC sitcom of the same name from 1987 to 1993, the comedy series follows a new generation of students at HBCU Hillman College, focusing on Deborah (Maleah Joi Moon), the youngest child of Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert.
The season 2 logline of “A Different World” reads: “After transformative summers, Deborah and her Hillman classmates return to campus for sophomore year with a ‘New Year, New Me’ attitude, only to find themselves confronting past decisions, an uncertain future, new loves and friendships, and deeper questions of purpose…all while, of course, plunging themselves into a whole new mess.”
Alongside Moon, “A Different World” stars Alijah Kai, Cornell Young IV, Jordan Aaron Hall, Kennedi Reece and Chibuikem Uche. Jasmine Guy and Kadeem Hardison reprized their roles as Dwayne and Whitley from the original series, alongside Darryl M. Bell, Cree Summer, Ajai Sanders, Jada Pinkett Smith and more. Felicia Pride is the creator, showrunner, executive producer and writer of the series, while Debbie Allen – who directed 83 episodes of the original series – returned as director and executive producer.
“It’s so rewarding to be supported by our incredible audience,” Pride said in a statement. “We are beyond excited to return to Hillman and continue to tell meaningful, heartfelt stories that resonate across generations. I am thrilled with our brilliant cast and hard-working crew.”
Allen added: YAY! HALLELUJAH! The people and Netflix have spoken. “A Different World” brought something everyone needed: joy, romance, relevance, authenticity and HEART! Thank you for placing us in the World Top 10! And now get ready! We’re coming back to you with season 2!! »
Season 1 of “A Different World” received critical acclaim, with VarietyAramide Tinubu writes: “Updated and fresh, the new series sets itself apart from the original while paying homage to everything that made its predecessor so iconic. »
